We are looking at a plentiful crop this growing season with harvest right around the corner! At our Hilltop Vineyard, shoot thinning in the spring and selective leaf thinning in July reduced overall cluster count with remaining clusters exposed to more Carmel Valley sunshine. Clusters seem to have even ripening with the onset of veraison (the onset of ripening/ change of color in grape cluster berries) appearing late July. With a few weeks to go, and overall a moderate growing season, we are anticipating a late August harvest starting with our whites and continuing through October with a longer hang time for the red varietals. It is shaping up to be a great 2017 vintage!
